ABSTRACT

To evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of using eversion endarterectomy for treatment of carotid artery stenosis. During 2006, 23 patients [17 male, 6 female, aged 38-84 years, 10 symptomatic, 13 asymptomatic, 3 had bilateral stenosis], underwent eversion endarterectomy of the carotid artery at the Vascular Department in Queen Alia Military Hospital. Nine patients [4 male, 5 female aged 52-73 years] were treated using standard open carotid endarterectomy with patch angioplasty. Surgery was performed under regional anesthesia in 24 patients and under general anesthesia in 8 patients. Technical and anatomical success was achieved in all patients, recovery was uneventful .After two years of follow up with duplex no occlusion or restenosis were encountered. Based on this experience eversion endarterectomy is a useful technique for the treatment of carotid stenosis and should be considered as one of the tools used to treat patients with carotid stenosis
